The step by step guide to making
videos from GT5 Prologue
(or any other PS3 game)
(Is there such a thing as another PS3
game?)
A saved replay file can only be used by GT5 P on the PS3. It is just a series of instructions that only GT5 P can understand and therefore cannot be converted to a video format. The best way to get videos from the PS3 to the PC is to use some sort of capture device.
It is possible to use a normal video camera to video your TV screen, but the quality of the video will be really poor. A capture device takes the original PS3 output and makes a video from that, so the quality is the same as you see when you play the game.

* Most capture devices involve a PC in between the PS3 and the TV/Monitor. This can cause a delay between you pressing a button, and the action happening on screen, and make the game unplayable (but is fine for making videos from replays).
The cable pictured below is a great addition. The recording device can still record, but it has been removed from the game playing, display process.
Cable
The attachment on the left goes into the PS3. The SCART on the right goes into your TV. The block in the middle goes to your recording device no matter what it is (DVD recorder, TV card, capture device, etc.)
My setup
I currently use a Pinnacle Video Capture recording to USB disk drive. This creates .mp4 files that can be edited using VideoSpin. It can also upload direct to YouTube.
You will also need a YouTube/Vimeo (other video hosting sites are available) account, or your own webspace, if you want other people to be able to view your video.
